Local Initiatives and Collaborations

The growth of yachting/nautical activities are hampered due to lack of infrastructure facilities such as manufacturing (especially vessels over 20M), berthing (anchorages/marinas), launching and testing (slipways/launching pads) and dock facilities for repairing purposes.

Beruwala Launching Pad

The Chamber initiated discussions with relevant authorities and ministries to establish a launching pad for boats in Beruwala. This strategic move aims to facilitate local boat manufacturers, providing them with a platform to thrive.

Kapparathota (Weligama)

Kapparathota in Weligama is set to have a breakwater constructed to support local boat builders with berthing, launching, and testing facilities, in line with the National Export Strategy (NES). While pre-feasibility, feasibility, and detailed design are complete, environmental reports are pending due to funding issues.
